Field of Honour is the first, self-contained instalment of Max Aub’s six-novel epic The Magic Labyrinth, acknowledged in Spain as one of the greatest works of literature to come out of the Spanish Civil War. These novels depict a world populated by characters – both fictional and real – whose political beliefs are founded in blood and sweat.
